El Golazo of lionel messi

Messi shortly before scoring the goal.
On April 18, 2007, Messi scored two goals during a Copa del Rey semifinal against Getafe CF, one of which was very similar to Maradona’s famous goal against England at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, known as the Goal of the Century[27]. Messi’s goal is already considered a major contender for the best goal of the year. The world’s sports press exploded with Maradona comparisons, and the Spanish press labeled Messi "Messidona". He ran about the same distance (62 metres), beat the same number of players (six, including the goalkeeper), scored from a very similar position, and ran towards the corner flag just as Maradona did in Mexico 21 years before. A video of the goal can be seen here.

2006-07 Season of lionel messi

Messi maintained his reputation as a big match player when he tricked Brazilian full back Roberto Carlos making him fall over and break a finger during one particularly deft move.[22] His 89th minute equaliser away to Werder Bremen was pivotal in Barcelona’s qualification to the Champions League knock out phase. Messi had another long lay off with a broken metatarsal which kept him out for 3 months.[23] He sustained the injury in a game against Real Zaragoza on November 12, after tackles from Alberto Zapater and Albert Celades.[24] On 5 January 2007, Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo reported that Internazionale president Massimo Moratti was planning a £71 million bid for Messi;[25] however, Moratti denied any immediate plans to sign Messi in an interview posted on Internazionale’s official website.[26] He made his return against Racing Santander on the 11th of February, where he came on as a second-half substitute.[1] On March 10, 2007 he scored a hat-trick against Real Madrid in El Clásico, with his third goal coming in injury time to earn 10-man Barcelona the draw 3-3 at home to Real Madrid. Messi was the first player to score a hat-trick in El Clásico since Iván Zamorano did it for Real Madrid in the 1994-95 season, and the first Barcelona player to do it since Romario scored three against Real Madrid in the 1993-94 season, and against Recreativo he scored again. This was his 7th goal. He scored again against Deportivo, from a wonderful pass from Ronaldinho. This was his 8th goal in the 2006-07 season. A wondeful solo goal against Getafe CF in a La Liga game on April 18th further reflected Messi’s footballing similarity with Diego Maradona, and has further forged the youngster as one of the hottest prospects in the game.

World Cup 2006 of lionel messi

The injury that kept him from playing for two months at the end of the 2005/06 league, jeopardized his presence in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Nonetheless, Messi was selected in the Argentina squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup on May 15, 2006. He also played in the farewell match against the Argentinian U-20 team for fifteen minutes and a friendly against Angola from the 64th minute.[15][16]
Messi witnessed Argentina’s opening match win against Ivory Coast from the bench because the manager Pekerman wanted to shield him from the pressure.[17] In the next match against Serbia and Montenegro, he came on as a substitute for Maxi Rodríguez in the 74th minute. In doing so he became the youngest player to represent Argentina at a World Cup. He assisted Hernán Crespo’s goal within minutes of entering the game and also scored the final goal in the 6-0 victory. This goal made him the youngest scorer in the 2006 World Cup and the sixth youngest scorer in World Cup history, Pelé being the youngest.[18] Messi started in Argentina’s following 0-0 tie against the Netherlands as a forward. Fellow striker Carlos Tevez and he were not allowed any space by the Dutch defence, which prevented him from causing any damage and he was substituted in the 69th minute.[19]
In the following game against Mexico, Messi came on as a substitute for Javier Saviola in the 84th minute, with the score tied 1-1. He scored a goal, which was controversially ruled offside. Argentina proceeded to win the game 2-1 in extra time. [20] Messi controversially spent the entire quarter-finals match against Germany, which Argentina lost in a penalty shootout, on the bench.[21]

2005-06 season of lionel messi

2005-06 season

Messi obtained Spanish citizenship on September 25 and was finally able to make his debut in this season’s Spanish First Division. He had previously been unable to play because FC Barcelona had filled their quota of non-EU players. Messi’s first home outing in the UEFA Champions League came on September 27 against Italian club Udinese.[10] He impressed with some great passing and a seemingly telepathic relationship with Ronaldinho that earned him a standing ovation from the 70,000-odd Nou Camp faithful.[11] In December of that year, the Italian newspaper Tuttosport awarded him the Golden Boy 2005 title for the best under-21 player in Europe, ahead of Wayne Rooney, Lukas Podolski, and Cristiano Ronaldo.[12]
Messi netted 6 goals from 17 league appearances and scored 1 Champions League goal from the 6 games he featured in. His reputation for big match temperament was helped by performances in Barcelona’s important away leg victories against Real Madrid and Chelsea in the league and Champions League respectively, each considered his best of the respective campaign.[13] [4] Messi’s season ended prematurely on March 7, 2006, when he tore a muscle in his right thigh during the second leg of the second round Champions League tie against Chelsea.[14]. Barcelona ended the season as champions of Spain and Europe.

Argentina U-20 lionel messi

 Argentina U-20

Messi was offered the chance to play for the Spanish national side, but he declined, preferring to wait for the opportunity to play for the country of his birth. In June 2004 he got his chance, playing in an under-20 friendly match against Paraguay.
In June 2005 Messi played in the U-20 team that won the Football World Youth Championship in Netherlands, picking up the Golden Boot as top scorer with 6 goals, and the Golden Ball for the best player of the tournament. Despite his youth, Lionel was already being compared to Diego Maradona, one of the greatest football players of all time. On June 27, FC Barcelona renewed his contract until 2010, establishing a selling clause of €150 million (which happens to be 30 million more than his teammate in Barcelona, Ronaldinho).[2][5
International debut
On August 4, José Pekerman called him up to the senior Argentine national team. He made his debut against Hungary being put in in the 63rd minute, but was sent off after just 40 seconds, because the referee Markus Merk found he had elbowed the defender Vilmos Vanczák who was tugging Messi’s shirt, and left the pitch in tears. The decision was heavily contested as Maradona even claimed the decision was pre-meditated.[6][7] Messi then had his first real international debut on September 3 in Argentina’s 0-1 World Cup qualifier away loss against Paraguay playing the last eight minutes of the match.[8] Ahead of the match he had said "This is a re-debut. The first one was a bit short"[9]

Beginnings of lionel messi

Lionel Messi was born in Santa Fe Province on June 24, 1987. At the age of five, he started playing football for Grandoli, a club coached by his father. In 1995, Messi switched to Newell’s Old Boys.[2] At the age of 11, he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency.[3] River Plate showed interest in Messi’s progress, but did not have enough money to pay for the treatment of the illness, which cost over £500 a month. As Argentina’s economy was collapsing, Carles Rexach, then sporting director of FC Barcelona, was made aware of Messi’s talent, and Barcelona signed him after watching him play,[4] offering to pay for the medical bills if he was willing to move to start a new life in Spain.[2] His family moved with the young player to Europe and he starred in the clubs youth teams.[4]
He soon found himself starting for the Barcelona B team, averaging more than a goal per game, by scoring 37 goals in 30 matches.

Captain Messi Scores in Argentina Triumph

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi enjoyed a commanding debut as Argentina skipper as his country opened their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 4-1 win over Chile. Messi scored once yesterday while Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain hit a hat-trick to give new coach Alejandro Sabella a triumphant start in his first competitive match in charge.
Argentina’s Spanish club influence was completed by Angel Di Maria setting up two of the goals for his Real Madrid teammate Higuain. “It was important to get off on the right foot and we did just that,” said Higuain. I liked a lot of what we did tonight. Now we have to keep this up.”
The 1978 and 1986 world champions, rebuilding after a poor Copa America which saw them exit in the quarter-final, were ahead after eight minutes at Buenos Aires’ Estadio Monumental where they haven’t lost a World Cup game for 18 years. Di Maria slipped in a pass to Higuain who drove the ball high into the net past Claudio Bravo in the Chile goal. Messi then scored his 18th international goal in his 63rd appearance in the 26th minute when he was released by a fine pass from Higuain before beating Bravo with a low shot from the edge of the box.
Chile, who were without key players Alexis Sanchez and Gary Medel through injury, came close to cutting the deficit in the 42nd minute when Humberto Suazo was unfortunate to see his effort deflected wide by the foot of Pablo Zabaleta. Di Maria set-up the third for Argentina in the 51st minute when he found Higuain with a smart cross which his Real Madrid teammate converted with a shot on the turn. Nine minutes later Matias Fernandez pulled one back for Chile before Messi teed-up Higuain for a his hat-trick in the 63rd minute after a poor Bravo clearance.

An open letter from Lionel Messi after the game against Uruguay

I’m writing this letter, with ears still full of whistling that I received the day of the tie with Colombia, and I think I have no choice but to address this letter to the population of Argentina.

I’m supposed to be the best in the world. Am I? I don’t know. What does the best in the world do? I don’t know that either.

I just know that I’m a football player who has done well. I also know, and remember, my history.
I started playing football when I was very young. In the middle of it, the unthinkable happened: My physique did not develop in a way that would allow me to play professionally. The only solution was a very expensive treatment, away from my family. I looked for support in Argentina, in my country, but I couldn’t find it. With my parents, I knocked on doors in vain. Nobody wanted to take a chance on a small child. Even River closed on me, thinking I was not worth it.

At that time, a foreign club was interested in me. They spent time, money and doctors on me. They allowed my family to stay close to me. Without rushing it, they shaped me, and I finally started playing. Organized and without skipping a single stage of the work on the way. That club was Barcelona.

For Argentina, this meant a risk of losing a possible player, so a lazy and rushed special party in the Argentine youth system was arranged, to keep me from playing for Spain. This was good for Argentina.

Now, every time I play for my country, using the Copa America for example, where everything was donated to charity, all responsibility falls on me. Do you forget that football is a team game? Do you think that things happen by magic? Do you not understand that football, like all sports, is a question of winning a few seconds instead? Today, nobody can improvise.

Argentina want to play as a club team, but they don’t want the job and the organization of a club. They want things to happen the same way, but while doing different things.

Without work and organization, there is no way to achieve success. Not in football, or in any aspect of life. The Argentines seem to not mind anything, always wanting their idols. They want to have a new Maradona. And now they’re following me?

It hurts me to say this: I love Argentina, But I’m tired of Argentines. I’m tired of giving explanations because there are people who thinks I’m the best in the world. I’m tired of being compared to Maradona or anyone else. I’m tired of them not understanding that I am someone who gets up every day, trying to make things right.

If the Argentines realized that, rather than requesting miracles from me, work and organization should be in the minds of the leaders, starting with football, things could improve. If not, it’s not important. But please, leave me and my family alone.

Messi Makes History In BATE Rout

Barcelona kick-started the defence of their Champions League crown by roundly thumping BATE Borisov as Lionel Messi scored twice in a 5-0 win to further cement his place in the history of the Catalan club. Messi scored either side of half-time on a rainy evening to take his overall tally for the club to 194 goals and move level with Hungary legend Ladislao Kubala in second place in Barca’s all-time list of leading scorers.
The Spanish champions took the lead on 19 minutes when a Dani Alves cross from the right was not dealt with by Egor Filipenko and Alyaksandr Volodko turned the ball into his own net at the back post under pressure from Messi. Three minutes later and it was 2-0 when Pedro stole a march on a rather static Maksim Bordachev to head home a left-wing David Villa cross.
BATE had set their stall out to defend in numbers, with every man back behind the ball except lone striker Mateja Kezman. Serbian international Kezman’s task was a thankless one, and the former PSV Eindhoven, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain player cut an isolated figure up front as his teammates tried unsuccessfully to soak up the pressure and hit on the break.
Villa saw two efforts well saved by Alyaksandr Gutor before the BATE goalkeeper gifted a third goal to Messi. Pedro’s cross from the right should have been a routine catch, but he contrived to drop the ball right on to the head of Messi, who will probably never score an easier goal in the Champions League. The pattern of the game remained much the same after the restart, and Messi got the goal that brought him level with Kubala on 55 minutes, exchanging passes with Alves before beating Gutor wit
h an unstoppable shot from just inside the area.
It was his 14th goal of this season alone, and that looked to be that until Villa added his name to the scoresheet, making it 5-0 in the last minute. The former Valencia man had been penalised for offside, but BATE made a complete mess of the resulting free-kick, gifting possession straight back to Villa, who finished past a drenched and thoroughly depressed Gutor.

Villa Praises ‘Incomparable’ Messi

Barcelona striker David Villa has hailed team-mate Lionel Messi, saying the Argentina captain is incomparable to other footballers. The 24-year-old Messi has been in a rich vein of form this season and his hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Atletico Madrid has put him at the top of La Liga’s scoring charts with eight goals.
Messi has said he is looking to surpass Cesar Rodriguez’s scoring record for Barcelona, and while Villa played down individual feats, he noted that the diminutive forward is in a league of his own. “Messi does incredible things,” Villa told reporters. “His stats make you cover your eyes. He cannot be compared to anyone. We are delighted.” The 29-year-old Villa, who has scored five goals in all competitions this season, stressed he is happy with life at Camp Nou. “Being at this club is a symptom of happiness,” Villa said. “I am very happy both on and off the field and I hope to stay here for many more years.” “I am not used to being a substitute, but in the dressing room there are 15 or 16 players who are not used to it either.”
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has highlighted similarities between Robin van Persie and Barcelona star Lionel Messi, following the former’s latest brace for Arsenal.
“I see similarities, positional-wise, with Messi,” said Wenger. “He likes to come deep and he likes to turn up, up front. Don’t make me make a comparison with Messi but it is just that positional-wise he is not really like the real centre forward.

interview about the Golden Ball

Lionel Messi won his second straight FIFA player of the year award Monday, with his mesmerizing play for Barcelona outweighing a disappointing World Cup.
The Argentine forward beat out Barcelona teammates Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta for the renamed FIFA Golden Ball Award, which merged the FIFA player of the year with France Football's Golden Ball. Messi became the first repeat winner since Ronaldinho in 2004 and 2005.

Messi received 22.65 percent of the votes cast by national team coaches and captains plus selected reporters. Iniesta followed with 17.36 percent and Xavi received 16.48 per cent to finish third for the second straight year. All three finalists are products of Barcelona's La Masia youth academy.
Eight of the 20 winners of the FIFA award have come from Barcelona, which also won with Brazilians Romario (1994), Ronaldo (1996 and 1997), Rivaldo (1999) and Ronaldinho.
Jose Mourinho was voted men's coach of the year after leading Inter Milan to the European Champions League title, Brazilian forward Marta was selected women's player of the year for the fifth straight time and Germany's Silvia Neid earned women's coach of the year honors.
Barcelona also placed six players on the 11-man All-Star team announced by FIFA and the union FIFPro, with Messi, Xavi and Iniesta joined by defenders Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique, and forward David Villa, who transferred from Valencia just before the World Cup.
Also on the team were Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Castillas and forward Cristiano Ronaldo, and three Inter players: defenders Lucio and Maicon, and midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
The 23-year-old Messi helped Barcelona retain its Spanish league title. The Blaugrana lead the Spanish standings again this season.
"It's a very special day for me," Messi said through a translator.
The 23-year-old forward scored 58 goals in 54 games for the Catalan club in 2010 and had two in 10 matches with Argentina but failed to score for the Albiceleste at the World Cup. Iniesta and Xavi helped Spain win its first World Cup title, with Iniesta scoring the overtime goal in the 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the final.
"I didn't expect to win it today," Messi said. "Already it's a source of happiness to be here with my friends and even more to win it."
Messi won on the strength of the votes of national team coaches and captains, finishing first among both those groups. Sneijder received the highest percentage from the media, with Iniesta second, Xavi third and Messi fourth.
U.S. coach Bob Bradley and captain Carlos Bocanegra both voted Xavi first, with Bradley picking Sneijder second and Messi third. Bocanegra selected Iniesta second and Sneijder third. Soccer America's Paul Kennedy, the only U.S. media voter, had Xavi first, followed by Messi and Sneijder.
Mourinho was voted FIFA men's coach of the year after leading Inter Milan to the Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup titles.
Mourinho, the self-dubbed "Special One," received 35.92 percent and beat Spain coach Vicente del Bosque (33.08) and Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola (8.45) in the inaugural prize. The Portuguese coach left Inter after the 2009-10 season to become coach of Real Madrid.
"The most important things for me are the collective titles, not the individual ones," Mourinho said.
Bradley selected Mourinho first, followed by Del Bosque and Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, while Bocanegra had Guardiola first, followed by Mourinho and Del Bosque. Kennedy voted Del Bosque first, followed by Mourinho and Germany coach Joachim Loew.
Marta received 38.2 percent, beating out Germany's Birgit Prinz (15.18) and Kosovo-born Lira Bajramaj (9.96). Marta was rewarded for her MVP season with the Gold Pride of the Women's Professional Soccer league in the United States, which folded, The team, based in Santa Clara, Calif., folded in November.
"I'm looking at contracts for the league. For the time being I have nothing confirmed," she said through a translator.
Neid, the coach of Germany's national team, received 24.06 percent, finishing ahead of Maren Meinert of Germany's world champion under-20 team (18.26) and U.S. women's team coach Pia Sundhage (11.68).
Hamit Altintop won the Puskas Award for most beautiful goal in 2010 for his volleyed shot for Turkey against Kazakhstan in a 2012 European Championship qualifier. The Bayern Munich midfielder connected with a right-footed shot from yards after a left-flank corner had looped directly into his path.
The award is named after the late Hungarian and Real Madrid great Ferenc Puskas.
Haitian soccer received the FIFA fair play award for its recovery from an earthquake which devastated the Caribbean island last January.
The FIFA presidential award was made to Archbishop Desmond Tutu in recognition of South Africa's organization of the World Cup.
